Infant room (6 weeks - 18 months) Babies learn in the context of one-on-one relationships. Because of this, the most important ingredient in high quality care is the relationship between caregiver, child, and his family. Through daily routines and interactions with our teachers, the infants learn to trust that the world is a safe place where their needs will be met. Infants who are securely attached are more capable of developing and maintaining physical and emotional balance. Secure attachements help children become confident and independent learners with strong social skills. At Peach Tree we develop our curriculum with these things in mind. We base our activities on the interests and developmental readiness of each child. We spend time with children one-on-one or in small groups, offering materials, experiences and ourselves as stimuli for learning, play and healthy emotional development.
We aim to create a safe and nurturing environment where the infants learn to trust and grow to love our teachers. We talk and sing to our babies as much as possible to develop early listening and language skills. (peek-a-boo, pat-a-cake, this little piggy…) We play with them using a variety of toys to encourage interest and alertness and to develop body control. As the children get older we will encourage sitting up, standing, walking, and all the other milestones along the way. We realize that each child has different interest, temperaments, and needs. We will work closely with our families to determine each child’s needs and create individualized routines to meet those needs. Maintaining a close relationship with our parents is important to us because it helps ensure consistency between home and school. This allows us to build the necessary attachment vital to our infants' development.
